Middle-Earth 4K Ultimate Collector’s Edition Is Up for Preorder

A new 4K collection of all six movies based on J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved saga is up for preorder. Called the Middle-earth Ultimate Collector's Edition, it comes with both the theatrical and extended editions of the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogies on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and digital, plus a bunch of extras. It retails for $249.99, and it's out October 26. You can preorder it here.

The movies are spread across 31 discs. An additional Blu-ray disc contains the Alamo Drafthouse cast reunions for the The Lord of the Rings actors, hosted by the Tolkien-obsessed host Stephen Colbert, as well as the Festival de Cannes Presentation Reel. Also included in the package are seven travel poster art cards and a 64-page booklet of costume sketches, photography, and production notes.

One of the neatest parts about the collection is the slipcase that houses the discs. It can be folded and displayed in multiple configurations that each have their own shape and art that's put on display.

The digital versions of the movies are compatible with Movies Anywhere, so you can watch them on Apple, Amazon, Google, YouTube, or any other compatible streaming service.

It's a big year for Tolkien fans as, for the first time, a new hardcover edition of The Lord of the Rings will feature the author's illustrations. That book is currently on sale for 40% off at Amazon, with a publish date of November 2.
