IGN has the exclusive new trailer and poster for Zeros and Ones, an upcoming thriller starring Ethan Hawke and written and directed by Abel Ferrara. You can watch the trailer in either the player above or via the embed below.
The film is described in its official plot synopsis as a “gritty tense political thriller set in one deadly night in Rome.” Here’s the full synopsis for more story details:
“Called to the city to stop an imminent terrorist bombing soldier JJ (Hawke) desperately seeks news of his imprisoned rebel brother Justin (also Hawke) who holds knowledge that could thwart the attack. Navigating the capital’s darkened streets JJ races to a series of ominous encounters hoping to keep the Vatican from being blown to bits.”
In addition to Ethan Hawke, the cast of the R-rated film also includes Cristina Chiriac, Salvatore Ruocco, and Valerio Mastandrea.
Bronx native Ferrara is an indie filmmaker known for such edgy Noir-ish crime films as The Bad Lieutenant, King of New York, and The Funeral. He’s directed several documentaries and has collaborated several times over the years with actors Willem Dafoe, Harvey Keitel, and Christopher Walken.
When asked for a statement on what appealed to him about making Zeros and Ones, Ferrara issued the following statement to IGN:
"Films of my childhood, soldiers and spies, night, rain, danger, mystery, revolution, powerful exotic women, a war raging, and I knew it was now or never for this movie and me. Thankfully, Ethan understood all this."
