During today's Nintendo Direct presentation, we got our first proper look at Yoko Taro's upcoming card-based RPG, Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars, which we also learned is coming to Nintendo Switch on October 28.
The game is a turn-based RPG where everything, from characters to shops, towns and environments, is represented as cards. It's all represented on a tabletop, with characters clearly having different stats and certain rules dictating the outcomes of battles, which the trailer advertises as leaning on both skill and luck.
Aside from Taro's involvement, he's assembled a pile of Nier series veterans to work with on this new endeavor. Yosuke Saito is on board as executive producer, Kimihiko Fujisaka joins as a character designer, and Keiichi Okabe is directing music.
Voice of Cards was previously announced by publisher Square Enix earlier this month, with Taro at the time saying the project was “difficult to explain,” and a “somewhat unusual game.”
Taro's other recent works include recent mobile game Nier Reincarnation, a mobile game that takes place in the same universe as the mainline Nier games, as well as the remake of Nier Replicant.
Today's Nintendo Direct had plenty of other exciting announcements, so if you missed it you can catch our full recap of everything shown.
