Update: Xbox has now announced the 20th Anniversary controller, alongside a themed stereo headset. Preorders are live at Amazon.
Shown off on Xbox Wire, the news also revealed that connecting the new controller to your Xbox Series X/S will add a themed dynamic background to your options. The controller is available for pre-order now.
The new Stereo Headset is build to complement the new controller, also including translucent sections and Xbox green highlights. Xbox also showed off a new, matching Razer quick charging controller stand, as well as a 20th Anniversary T-shirt and hat.
Best Buy Canada has prematurely opened up preorders for a yet-to-be-announced special edition Xbox controller.
The Xbox Wireless Controller – 20th Anniversary Special Edition controller is a transparent black controller with Xbox green on the backside of the controller's grip. As the name suggests, this special edition controller is part of Microsoft's celebrations to commemorate the release of the company's first home gaming console, the Xbox, which released on November 15, 2001.
While Microsoft has yet to announce the controller officially, the company's official Twitter account did tease the product yesterday. The listing itself notes the controller costs CA$80 (about $60) and is slated to be released on November 15 to coincide with the original Xbox's launch anniversary.
This is not the first special edition gaming accessory Microsoft is releasing to celebrate Xbox's milestone. During Gamescom last August, the company unveiled a Halo-themed Xbox Series X console and Xbox Elite Series 2 controller, as the first-person shooter also turns 20 this next month. Outside of gaming hardware, the company also announced other ways it was celebrating 20 years of Xbox, including a collaboration with Adidas to create a pair of sneakers themed after the original Xbox. While in July, the company partnered with Krispy Kreme to bring Xbox-themed Nexus Level Donuts to the donut chain's UK locations.
