Razer Enters the Customizable Keyboard Market with Its Own Line of Custom Keycaps

Gaming peripheral company Razer announced today that it will be entering the customizable keyboard market, releasing keycaps, cables, and wrist rests, allowing owners of its keyboards to add some personal flair if they desire.

The Phantom Keycap Upgrade Set features translucent walls, meaning the RGB lighting will offer a more direct and stronger glow when lit. The Phantom Keycap Upgrade Set is available as a $35, 128-keycap set, comes in black or white, and is compatible with all of Razer's Mini, Tenkeyless, and full-sized mechanical/optical keyboards that have either a US or UK layout.

Razer's PBT Keycap + Coiled Cable Upgrade Set offers PBT keycaps which you can replace on your current Razer 60%, Tenkeyless, and full-sized mechanical keyboard. For context, the two most common plastics used for making keycaps are ABS and PBT; the main differences are that ABS is cheaper and more common, though they are susceptible to a greasy shine over time. In comparison, PBT keycaps, while less common, are a higher quality plastic that feels better and more durable.

The coiled cable Razer is selling is a coiled USB-C to USB-A cable and offers a clutterless design for your desk. Razer claims the braided fiber design makes the cable more durable.

The PBT Keycap + Coiled Cable Upgrade Set costs $30 and is available in four colors: black, white, green, and pink. It includes 128-keycaps and is compatible with the US or UK layout. Alternatively, you only want the PBT keycaps; Razer is selling a separate upgrade set for the same price.

Lastly, Razer's $20 Ergonomic Wrist Rests are compatible with the company's Mini or Tenkeyless keyboards, while its Wrist Rest Pro is designed for its full-sized keyboards. It features memory foam on the inside with anti-slip rubber feet to prevent any slipping while in use. Razer says the wrist wrests will reduce strain even during extended gaming sessions.
