Quentin Tarantino Says He Would Cast Adam Driver as Rambo If He Remade First Blood

Quentin Tarantino has one movie left to direct before he allegedly retires, but that's not stopping him from pitching movies he'd like to make, such as a remake of First Blood starring Adam Driver as Rambo.

During an interview with MovieWeb, the director said that if he wanted to make a good movie that he knows would be good, he'd remake First Blood. Instead of remaking the story of the movie, though, he'd make a First Blood that sticks closely to the David Morell novel of the same name.

"If I just wanted to make a good movie, that I knew would be good, I would take David Morrell's novel for First blood and do the novel," Tarantino said. "Not the movie that was made out of First Blood. I would do the novel, and Kurt Russell would play the sheriff and (Adam Driver) would play Rambo."

Tarantino continued and said that all of the dialogue in the novel is "fantastic" and that making a movie using that dialogue would be "so good." He said if his next steps were simply about making a good movie, First Blood is out there as an option.

Considering his next movie is the tenth and supposedly final movie he'll direct, it doesn't seem likely he'd go out with a First Blood remake. Perhaps this Rambo movie will sit on the shelf next to his R-rated Star Trek movie?

Morell's First Blood novel was published in 1972, ten years before the First Blood movie hit theaters in 1982. While the two feature largely the same overarching story, there are quite a few differences. For example, Rambo is just known as Rambo in the novel — not John Rambo as he's known in the Sylvester Stallone films — and the iconic knife that many associate with the character was nowhere to be seen in the novel.

Perhaps the biggest difference, though, is that Rambo dies in the novel and obviously that's not the case for the First Blood movie which spawned off numerous sequels starring the character.

Driver would likely make a great Rambo, or at least, he has the physical stature to play the iconic character as seen in Driver's Ben Swolo, er, Solo, in The Last Jedi.
