A new Predator movie, Prey, is on its way from director Dan Trachtenberg and will head to Hulu in summer 2022. Announced during Disney+ Day, Prey is set 300 years ago and will star indigenous actor Amber Midthunder as Naru.
A brief plot outline reads: “Set in the world of the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, the action-thriller follows Naru, the skilled warrior who fiercely protects her tribe against a highly evolved alien predator.”
Naru apparently wants to “prove her worth as a warrior,” and “certainly gets her chance when she comes face to face with the most dangerous hunter of all, the other-worldly predator.”
Prey has been in the works for several years, with 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg confirming he was working on the project back last year.
“This was meant to be a surprise,” he said via Twitter. “Been working on this for almost 4 years now. I am very sad that what we had in store for how you could discover this movie will no longer happen. It’s a bummer. But also…YAY!”
Although earlier reports confirmed the existence of this upcoming Predator movie, its title and release date were confirmed today during Disney+ Day. It will now feature as part of 20th Century Fox’s upcoming film slate.

According to previous reports, Prey won’t be connected to the recent 2018 reboot, The Predator, which was received poorly by critics. IGN's own review of The Predator says the movie “splinters apart in the haphazard and shoddy-looking last half-hour, largely derailing what began as a promising entry in the wildly inconsistent franchise.”
The Predator series began in 1987 with the classic Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, and has continued with five additional titles, including crossovers with the Alien franchise.
Although Prey will debut on Hulu in summer 2022, it’s unclear whether the film will also get a theatrical release.
