• The Rock Showed Up In Full Black Adam Costume During San Diego Comic-Con 2022

Black Adam made a shocking live appearance at San Diego Comic Con today at the Warner Bros. panel, descending from the heavens amid a lightning storm into Hall H.

Not long after Black Adam had come and gone, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson emerged, saying "I heard Black Adam was here, that's so cool." Very cool, Mr. Johnson, very cool indeed.

Johnson, who obviously plays Black Adam in the upcoming film, spoke on stage about his experience with the role:

“The journey for Black Adam, it has been a long journey, fueled with passion, with commitment, with grit," he said. "It’s been easily over 10 years. I’ve been working with Jaume [Collet-Serra] for about five years now and so that’s when he came on board for this. The journey has been an incredible one. I love coming to Comic-Con. To be here in Hall H, representing a DC anti-hero is a dream come true. The dream, having been in the business for years now, I’d bring movies here and hope you guys would like them but this is a dream come true."

Later on the panel, Johnson was asked who would win in a fight: Black Adam or Superman.

“Don’t threaten me with a good time. As you guys know, since we’re in deep with this mythology. Pound for pound they’re pretty close. I think it all depends on who’s playing Superman. I’ll just say that. I’ll leave it at that.”

And a kid also asked him if Kevin Hart got jealous when Johnson was cast as Black Adam.

"Yes, Kevin Hart gets jealous with everything," he replied. "Also, you’re already taller than Kevin Hart."

Black Adam is set for release on October 21, introducing the DC antihero in live-action for the first time, and Johnson has teased that it's the start of a series of movie appearances. Joining him are Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Cintineo as Atom Smasher, and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone.

X-Treme X-Men Returns to Marvel Comics With Original Creative Team | Comic-Con 2022

Legendary X-men writer Chris Claremont is returning to the franchise once more, this time to revive the fan-favorite series X-Treme X-Men.

Marvel revealed the news at Comic-Con's Retailer Panel, confirming that Claremont and artist Salvador Larroca are both returning for a new five-issue series that picks up where the original left off in 2004.

X-Treme X-Men was one of Marvel's three flagship X-books in the early 2000's, alongside Grant Morrison's New X-Men and Chuck Austen's Uncanny X-Men. X-Treme distinguished itself by taking a more global approach to the X-Men, with Storm spearheading a team that operated away from the confines of the Xavier Institute.

The new series looks to revolve around Kitty Pryde, who is dealing with a psychic attack from her old nemesis Ogun. Kitty will reunite the X-Treme gang (including Storm, Wolverine, Rogue, Gambit, Bishop, Sage and Phoenix) to deal with this renewed threat.

“I’m very happy to be teaming up with Chris again to bring back the adventures of the X-Treme X-Men!” Larroca said in Marvel's press release. “It’s been a long time and I’ve missed this team and this book that I consider a child of mine. I hope fans enjoy what we’re doing with this new run–there’s lots of new histories to tell. This is the book that Chris Claremont fans have been waiting for and I’m proud to once again illustrate his awesome plots. Let’s make this an instant classic!”

X-Treme X-Men #1 is slated for release in November 2022.

In other X-Men news, we got our first look at the X-Men '97 animated series at Comic-Con, and we have some theories about which classic comics it may adapt.

Daily Deals: Save Big on Games Like Breath of the Wild, Resident Evil Village, and More

Today, you can save on some fantastic video games like Zelda: Breath of the Wild Skyward Sword HD, and Resident Evil Village. And, there are some new RTX 30 series GPU prices from Amazon that are rocking the deal world. The ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce RTX 3080 GPU, often considered the best RTX 3080 on the market, is on sale for under $800. If even that isn't enough, you can pick up an even more powerful RTX 3090 for under $1K.

The Best of the Best: ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce RTX 3080 OC 12GB GPU for $799

The GeForce RTX 3080 GPU really doesn't need any introduction. This is the de facto card to get if you plan to run current generation games at 4K, since it's up to 50% faster than the previous generation RTX 2080 SUPER and doesn't command the exorbitant price of the RTX 3080 Ti or RTX 3090 (both of which are a mere 3%-5% faster in real world performance). It has an HDMI 2.1 port for passing through 4K @ 120Hz, which it has the power to drive even in resource hungry games like Elden Ring, Battlefield 2042 or Cyberpunk 2077.

The ASUS ROG STRIX model is considered by many to be the very best RTX 3080 variant on the market. It's usually hundreds of dollars more than the 3080 FE price. That's in large part because of the incredible cooling potential of the massive 3-slot heatsink combined with the quietest triple fan cooling you'll find on any RTX 3080. Despite the low noise levels, the ROG STRIX offers a significantly OC'ed 1890MHz boost clock compared o the stock 1710MHz boost on the 3080 FE. This model also comes with 12GB of GDDR6X VRAM instead of the 10GB of VRAM that comes standard and most other RTX 3080 GPUs.

EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 GPU Starting at $749.99

EVGA's XC3 Ultra model is a "smaller" dual slot heatsink with triple fan cooling and a protective metal backplate. It has approximately similar dimensions as the 3080 FE, so it can fit in smaller or more restrictive cases. It boasts a modest 1755Hz Boost overclock compared ot the stock 1710MHz Boost on the 3080 FE.

EVGA's FTW3 Ultra model comes equipped with a ridiculously large triple slot heatsink with triple fan cooling and a protective metal backplate. This amount of dissipation allows the card to run cooler and quieter than the reference model RTX 3080 FE. This also enables the FTW3 Ultra model to have a bit more aggressive 1800MHz Boost overclock. Lastly and certainly the least important detail, let's not forget about the RGB lighting. There's enough there to make this card stand out in both traditional and vertical orientations.

Zotac GeForce RTX 3090 GPU for $999.99

If you were to purchase this 3090 graphics card purely for gaming, even at this discounted price, I'd say your money would be better spent on one of the RTX 3080 deals above. You'd be saving at least $200 and losing only about 5%-10% in terms of performance. Although the RTX 3090 is indeed a best-in-class gaming card, it's not really intended for gamers; it's catered towards professional graphic artists, animators, modelers, software engineers, or data scientists who run render farms, intensive workstation applications like Maya or 3ds Max, or machine learning. The RTX 3090 is the workstation GPU of choice not because of its processing power (which it has in spades), but the amount of VRAM. The RTX 3090 comes with a massive 24GB of GDDRX RAM compared to the RTX 3080's "paltry" 10GB-12GB. Unfortunately, however, the vast majority of games will not benefit from the increased VRAM, and that's why it's not the best purchase for the end gamer.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for 40 Bucks

It's one of the best games of all time, and today it can be yours for just $40. If you still haven't played Zelda: Breath of the Wild, what are you waiting for? Even five years after release, the price barely dips this low. While you wait for Breath of the Wild 2 to (hopefully) launch sometime next year, refresh yourself on the original groundbreaking open-world Zelda adventure.

Save on Skyward Sword HD for Nintendo Switch

Skyward Sword came before Breath of the Wild, and while it's not the same breathtaking adventure full of exploration, it's still certainly worth your time. The HD Switch version makes motion controls optional, streamlines some annoying elements from the original, and gives the whole thing a nice fresh coat of paint. And did I mention you can get it for under $30 today?

Resident Evil Village PS5 for $27

Resident Evil Village is getting a bunch of DLC later this year, and if you haven't played the original yet, you can grab it today for $27. This first-person adventure is one of the best Resident Evil games around. If you saw Lady Dimitrescu floating around the internet for the last year, this is where you can see what the hype is all about for yourself.

Newest Apple TV 4K for $129.99

This isn't exactly as cheap as Amazon Prime Day of $109, but it's still $50 cheaper than MSRP and the best price you'll probably see for a while. The newest Apple TV features two major upgrades. It boasts an A12 Bionic processor that boosts graphics performance, video decoding, and audio processing and delivers high frame rate HDR with Dolby Vision. It also includes a new Apple TV remote. The overall build quality is better than before, but the biggest enhancements are a 5-way clickpad, mute button, and dedicated power button that works for your TV, receiver, and Apple TV.

    Ranger Pro Electric Self-Balancing Scooter

Zip around your neighborhood on this self-balancing scooter from Hover-1. The hoverboard can reach speeds of 7 mph and support a weight of up to 265 pounds. It also has an integrated LED lighting system so you can customize your look as you ride around. The big 10-inch wheels will also allow you to ride on all surfaces comfortably.

    Razer Anzu Smart Glasses

These Razer smart glasses retail for a ridiculous $199.99. Fortunately, they're on sale today for a much more reasonable price of $48.96. The Razer Anzu glasses comes with two types of interchangeable lenses; blue-light filtering lenses for PC use and polarized lenses for outdoor use. They also feature a built-in mic and bluetooth speaker for hands-free calling.

Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 16" Intel Core i7-12700H Alder Lake RTX 3070 Gaming Laptop for $1599

Walmart is offering an outstanding deal on the new Lenovo Legion 5 Pro laptop that is also equipped with the 12th generation Intel Core i7 Alder Lake CPU and RTX 3070 GPU. The RTX 3070 GPU in this gaming laptop also has a TGP rating of 140W, and it performs as well as the MSI Crosshair on paper. In real world benchmarks, the Legion 5 Pro is one of the best performing gaming laptops on the market. It also looks more like a standard laptop, so you might want to pick this over the Crosshair if you're not into the gamer aesthetic.

    XPG S70 1TB M.2 SSD with Heatsink for $109.99

The XPG Gammix S70 Blade is the least expensive 1TB PS5 compatible SSD available right now. Just because it's the cheapest doesn't mean it's the slowest. In fact, the S70 is actually one of the fastest SSDs available with transfer rates up to 7,400 MB/s. It's on par with the likes of the WD Black SN850, the Samsung 980 Pro, or the Seagate Firecude 530. This is a PCIe Gen4 SSD that was pretty much released specifically for PS5 gamers in order to double or triple the storage capacity of their PS5 without limiting the speed. To make this deal even sweeter, it already comes with a very low-profile heatsink.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe + Free 12-Month Nintendo Switch Online Membership for $49.99 (or Animal Crossing: New Horizons for $50.99)

Nintendo Switch Online is automatically added to cart

Best Buy is offering a free Nintendo Switch Online 12-month individual membership when you purchase Super Mario Kart Deluxe 8 for $49.99. Alternatively, swap the game with Animal Crossing: New Horizons for $50.99. Nintendo Switch Online is required for online play in games like Super Mario Kart or Splatoon, downloading custom maps in Super Mario Maker 2, playing free retro SNES games, saving your game data to the cloud, and much more.

ASUS ROG STRIX GTX 1660 Ti Gaming PC

Walmart is offering this AMD Ryzen 5 3600X GTX 1660 Ti equipped gaming PC for only $799. The GTX 1660 Ti is still a very capable video card that can handle just about any game at 1080p resolution. You certainly won't find a more powerful video card for this price.

New Apple AirPods Pro for $179.99

The current generation Apple AirPods Pro is one of the best sounding "truly wireless" earbuds you'll find, especially at this price point. "Truly wireless" earbuds have no wires whatsoever; even the earbuds aren't hardwired to each other. In addition to the excellent sound quality, the AirPods Pro is the only AirPods with active noise cancelling technology. That, combined with the inherent nature of in-ear earbuds, means that the AirPods Pro will provide better noise isolation than over-ear headphones like the Bose QuietComfort or the Sony WH1000XM5. If you're thinking of getting a pair of new AirPods, we highly recommend jumping on this particular model.

    Dell S2721DGF 27" 1440p GSYNC Gaming Monitor

This excellent monitor has hit a new price low for Black Friday. It's one of the best 27" gaming monitors you can buy for under $500. The S2721DGF boasts a high quality IPS panel (better than the VA panel found on the popular S3220DGF model). It features wide viewing angles and excellent color rendition including 98% DCI-P3 color coverage, a super fast 1ms response time and up to 165Hz refresh rate through the DisplayPort. It's also FreeSync Premium Pro and G-SYNC compatible.

Shazam: Fury of the Gods Gets Its First Full Trailer

Shazam: Fury of the Gods has finally received a first full trailer, showing the next adventure of Zachary Levi's Shazam and his superpowered family.

Revealed as part of San Diego Comic-Con 2022, the trailer begins with Shazam doubting his role in the DCEU and as a superhero while also saying he feels like a fraud when compared to the other heroes like Batman, Aquaman, and The Flash.

We also get a glimpse of Helen Mirren's Hespera, the Shazam-ily, Lucy Liu's Kalypso, Shazam throwing a truck at a dragon, and even a Fast and Furious reference. That last bit is funny because Helen Mirren starred in F9 as Queenie.

Levi was at the panel and shared some details on what he and his Shazam-ily have been up to since the first film.

"We got this really cool look into the kids getting their powers," Levi said. "Now, it’s a couple of years on. We’ve been flying around and doing missions and helping the people of Philadelphia. Lots of growing pains. Not just in our own powers but in trying to figure out who we are as heroes and as real people.”

Hespera also discussed how she loved her time as Hespera as she was a "delicious baddie to play" before looking at Levi and saying she had "such a marvelous time kicking the s*** out of you."

We previously saw footage from the movie at DC FanDome, but that was primarily made up of behind-the-scenes looks at the production. The movie, which will arrive on December 21, follows October's debut of Black Adam – Shazam's traditional comic book nemesis.

The story will see the Shazam family (established at the end of the first movie) balancing normal life with being superheroes, before two goddesses – Mirren's Hespera and Liu's Kalypso – visit the world and cause trouble. The new movie will seemingly be more adult comedy and feature "more adult stakes" than the kid-friendly original.

Alongside Shazam: Fury of the Gods, Black Adam recieved a new trailer that featured DC's newest anti-hero face off against the Justice Society's Atom Smasher, Doctor Fate, Hawkman, and Cyclone. It was also confirmed that Amanda Waller will once again play Amanda Waller in the film.

    Spider-Man: Freshman Year Who’s Who – Daredevil, Doctor Strange and More | Comic-Con 2022

The future of the Marvel Multiverse is here, as San Diego Comic-Con is back with a bang for 2022. Ahead of the massive Saturday showcase, July 22 held host to the Marvel animation panel. Alongside the first look at Marvel’s What If…? Season 2, we got a peek at X-Men ‘97, Marvel’s Zombies and Spider-Man: Freshman Year.

Serving as a prequel of sorts to Tom Holland’s debut in Captain America: Civil War, executive producer and head writer Jeff Trammell’s cartoon plans to expand the wall-crawling hero’s story with a who’s who of Spidey favorites. Much like X-Men ‘97 and Marvel’s Zombies, it looks like Freshman Year takes place in one of the franchise’s alternate realities, meaning we can see anyone and everyone without messing with Holland’s live-action hero. Spider-Man: Freshman Year will hit Disney+ in 2024.

Here’s a full rundown of who’s stopping by (so far)…

    Peter Parker

Front and center is the Webhead himself. The story follows Peter Parker’s first year of high school, but by the looks of it, he’s already established as a costumed hero. It’s currently unclear who will voice the series lead, but with Hudson Thames voicing Spidey in What…If?, it’s possible he could return here.

    Daredevil

One of the few confirmed voice actors right now is a major one, with Daredevil’s Charlie Cox back as the Man Without Fear. Following a high-profile cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, many expected Matt Murdock to return to the MCU in some capacity. It’s not quite the long-rumored Daredevil Season 4, but it’s a huge win for fans of Cox and Netflix’s series.

    Harry Osborn

With Harry Osborn confirmed to play a part in Spider-Man: Freshman Year, Peter’s comic book best friend is finally making his MCU debut. (Though it sounds like they won’t be best friends in the animated series…)

    Norman Osborn

Willem Dafoe made his long-awaited return to the Spider-Verse for Spider-Man: No Way Home and might’ve gotten his happy ending when he was returned to his original timeline. In Freshman Year, Osborn takes on something of a mentor role – serving as a plot device similar to Tony Stark in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Osborn will cross paths with both Peter and Spider-Man, but it remains to be seen whether he’ll evolve into the Green Goblin.

    Doctor Strange

Fresh off messing with the Multiverse in both No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Doctor Stephen Strange is back for more. Even though there’s no word on whether Benedict Cumberbatch will be reprising his role as the sorcerer, the fact that series is set in some version of the MCU coupled with him voicing Strange in What…If? makes it a possibility.

    Aunt May

Back in the day, cartoon fans remember the white-haired Aunt May from Spider-Man: The Animated Series (and other shows), while her live-action film appearances also largely portrayed her as an older mother figure to Peter. That all changed with Marisa Tomei’s younger version, and from what we’ve seen of her, Freshman Year will bring back Aunt May following that No Way Home twist.

    Amadeus Cho

The MCU is continuing the story of Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk in She-Hulk, but we now have the first tease of Bruce Banner’s potential replacement. Much like how Riri Willaims takes over from Iron Man, Cho is the eventual successor to Banner – taking on the mantle of Brawn. Introduced in 2005, Cho then returned for the World War Hulk arc. Given his love of science, we bet Cho will be teaming up with Parker in the lab.

    Nico Minoru

Hulu’s Marvel’s Runaways might’ve not been as big a hit as something like Daredevil, but one of its characters is stopping by for Freshman Year. Nico doesn’t let her lineage as the daughter of two dark wizards get in her way. As the de facto leader of the Runaways in the comics, Nico Minoru has the chance to take Freshman Year beyond Peter’s high school drama. She’s been described as Peter’s best friend in the show.

    Doctor Octopus

Another famous face from Spider-Man’s rogue's gallery is the legendary Doctor Octopus. Again with a style reminiscent of Spider-Man: The Animated Series, this version of Doc Ock also takes nods from the comics with his bowl haircut and goggles. There are enough villains to fill the Sinister Six (and beyond) on this show, and it seems like Otto will be leading the pack here.

    Bentley Wittman/Wizard

Paul F. Tompkins voices Bentley Wittman in Freshman Year, but will he be taking on the mantle of the Wizard? Even though this supervillain might be remembered as an enemy of the Human Torch, the Wizard has also clashed with Spider-Man on plenty of occasions. Possessing superhuman strength and boasting an arsenal of wild weapons, Wittman is known as a founding member of the Frightful Four.

    Mac Gargan/Scorpion

Better Call Saul’s Michael Mando had a minor role as Mac Gargan in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and although we never got to see him properly emerge as Scorpion, the character’s post-credit tease of the Sinister Six has become something of a cliffhanger. The Freshman Year concept art shown in the Marvel animation panel depicts Gargan in his classic Scorpion outfit – complete with green spandex and weaponized tail.

    Dmitri Smerdyakov/Chameleon

Taking the honor of being Spider-Man's first adversary, Chameleon has a lot of comic book history as a master of disguises. Dmitri Smerdyakov is also known as the half-brother of Kraven the Hunter, and Fred Hechinger is rumored to be playing Chameleon in Sony’s Kraven the Hunter movie. The character has appeared in the MCU before as Numar Acar played Dmitri in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

    Aleksei Sytsevich/Rhino

Another staple of the Sinister Six is Rhino. Alongside appearances in The Animated Series and Insomniac’s Spider-Man game, the bulky Rhino was played by Paul Giamatti in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Whereas his comic book origin features the Russian mobster undergoing an experimental procedure that gives him super-hard skin, he’s typically shown as a thug in a suit these days.

    James Sanders/Speed Demon

Heading into the lower tiers of Spider-Man villains, James Sanders appears in Freshman Year as Speed Demon. Originally known as the Whizzer in the comics, the character has since adopted the name of Speed Demon since parting ways with the Sinister Squadron. As his name suggests, Sanders is another Marvel speedster.

    Milos Masaryk/Unicorn

Soviet intelligence agent Milos Masaryk was assigned to track down Anton Vanko as the original Crimson Dynamo. Harnessing the power of Vanko’s tech, Masaryk became the Unicorn and used a horned helmet to shoot a beam of radiation at his enemies. Unicorn was then affected by mutagenic radiation and gained superhuman strength. Given that he’s usually associated with Iron Man, it’ll be interesting to see how he fits in here.

    Anton Miguel Rodriquez/Tarantula

Finally, the Spider-like Tarantula is rounding off Spider-Man: Freshman Year’s cast. Known as a terrorist in his homeland of Delvadia, Anton Miguel Rodriguez was recruited by his government as a fascist Captain America under the name of Tarantula. When he took on a life of crime in America, he was stopped by Spider-Man and Punisher before escaping from prison with the help of the Jackal. Again, look out for another young reimagining of the character.

And those are the biggest character reveals from the Marvel animation panel. Which character are you most excited to see? Let’s discuss in the comments!
