Black Series Obi-Wan Kenobi Lightsaber and All the Best Star Wars Merch, Cosplay, and More | Comic-Con 2022

While actual Star Wars news was mostly non-existent at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, the showfloor had a ton of great merch, cosplay, and more from that galaxy far, far away, including a high-end and customizable Black Series Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber.

The Star Wars: The Black Series – Obi-Wan Kenobi Force FX Elite Lightsaber is based on the one Ewan McGregor uses in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+ and it features a ton of great features that will make this a great addition to the collection of any cosplayer or Jedi.

The lightsaber itself features a progressive ignition blade and has certain effects you can activate to simulate how the light of the lightsaber would change if it were clashing against another, deflecting blaster fire, or attempting to cut through a door. It also features another cap that can be put on when the blade is removed to make it great for a display or for hanging from one's belt.

The Star Wars: The Black Series – Obi-Wan Kenobi Force FX Elite Lightsaber can be pre-ordered now from Hasbro Pulse for $278.99 and it will become available on January 1, 2023.

Alongside the latest iteration of Obi-Wan's lightsaber, San Diego Comic-Con also gave us a look at costumes from the upcoming Andor series, a wide range of Star Wars cosplay that looks like it'd fit right into the films and TV, and some incredible collectibles like a stunning Star Wars Mythos: Darth Vader statue that depicts the battle-ravaged Dark Lord of the Sith atop an X-Wing that comes complete with a flaming lightsaber.

For more on San Diego Comic-Con, check out our look at the best figures and statues at the Sideshow Collectibles booth, our recap of the show, and who the biggest winners of the weekend were.

Laal Singh Chaddha Is an Indian Remake of Forrest Gump

“My mamma used to say, ‘Life is just like a golgappa. Your tummy might feel full, but your heart always craves more.’”

If that sounds vaguely familiar it’s because Laal Singh Chaddha is an Indian Hindi-language remake of Tom Hanks' 1994 Best Picture winner Forrest Gump, which was itself an adaptation of Winston Groom's novel.

Laal Singh Chaddha is directed by Advait Chandan and produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Kiran Rao, and Viacom18 Studios, in cooperation with Paramount Pictures.

You can watch the trailer for it via the player above or the embed below.

The official plot synopsis for Laal Singh Chaddha acknowledges it’s a retelling of Forrest Gump “through the lens of India’s modern history and culture” in order to tell a “life-affirming story chronicling the extraordinary life of an ordinary man.”

The synopsis reads: “With a childhood marked by a unique bond between Laal and his single mother, tempered with strong values, the story follows Laal’s journey of love, innocence, and destiny as he triumphs over life's many challenges. As he wins the hearts of those he meets along the way, he reminds us that everyone, even the most unlikely of people, has a story.”

Aamir Khan, star of the Academy Award-nominated Lagaan, plays Laal, the film’s version of Forrest, while Kareena Kapoor Khan (3 Idiots) plays Rupa, who is Laal’s Jenny. Mona Singh portrays Laal’s beloved mom, the role Sally Field played in Forrest Gump.

While adapted through an Indian historical prism, Laal Singh Chaddha clearly retains many notable elements from the original Americana-stuffed Forrest Gump (screenwriter Eric Roth even receives screen credit in the trailer).

Laal Singh Chaddha features the titular protagonist’s childhood leg disability, his wartime military service, meeting historical figures, ping pong, that symbolic feather, and, of course, lots and lots of running.

The film was shot in over 100 locations around India, and includes songs such as “Kahaani” and “Main Ki Karan?.”

Laal Singh Chaddha will be theatrically released worldwide on August 11, 2022.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Figures Offer Closer Look at Namor and Attuma

The first trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever confirmed Tenoch Huerta is playing Namor and showed fans their first glimpse of Atlantean characters in the MCU. It's probably going to be a while before a second, longer trailer comes along, but Hasbro is giving us a closer look at the new characters being introduced in the Black Panther sequel.

Hasbro revealed their full lineup of Marvel Legends figures inspired by Wakanda Forever at Comic-Con. You can see all seven figures in the slideshow gallery below, including figures depicting Namor and his fellow Atlantean Attuma:

The Namor and Attuma figures both showcase the reimagined take on Atlantis in the MCU, one that seems to combine Mesoamerican elements with the classic Marvel Comics aesthetic. The Attuma figure confirms that this MCU villain fashions both weapons and armor out of the bones of sharks. We'll see how that holds up against high-tech Wakandan weapons.

The Nakia figure also hints at some interesting developments in the film. Nakia looks to be wearing a Wakandan diving suit, which suggests she'll be undertaking a mission to Atlantis during the course of the movie.

Alongside the five MCU figures in this wave (which also includes Everett K. Ross and Okoye), Hasbro is releasing two comic book-inspired figures. One depicts Black Panther in his classic Silver and Bronze Age costume, while the other is a Hatut Zeraze soldier (basically the Wakandan version of a SWAT team).

Interestingly, Letitia Wright's Shuri is nowhere to be found in this lineup. Given how the new trailer dances around the question of whether or not Shuri will be suiting up as the new Black Panther, we suspect Hasbro is withholding Shuri until closer to the film's release.

For more on Wakanda Forever, learn more about the history of Huerta's Namor and check out the new Black Panther Funko POP! figurines And be sure to brush up on all the big announcements from Comic-Con.
