One Cowboy Bebop Netflix Line Is Already Becoming Infamous

Netflix's live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop has received a divisive reception since its premiere, and one line in particular has already taken the internet by storm, and probably not for the right reasons.

In Episode 3, around the 7:40-minute mark, Jet Black is speaking to Woodcock and says it sounds as if she is blackmailing him. Instead of denying it, Woodcock doubles down and says, "Hmm, damn right it is because, Jet, you are Black and you are male."

Thanks to @Slime11037 on Twitter, you can see the scene for yourself below.

There were many people online who reacted to this scene, which was not found in the original, and shared their surprise at its inclusion.

"Me desperately trying to assure the public that cowboy bebop isn't that bad but cowboy bebop keeps asserting its badness," The Verge's Ash Parrish wrote.

It also made its way to ResetEra, where users like Krazen chimed in.

"I gotta see the scene, depends on how they set up the female antagonist. But as it stands, can’t tell if I am offended as a black person, or as someone who respects writing in general. Oof, that line wouldn’t even make a CSI Miami script."

In our review of this new take on Cowboy Bebop, we said, "Netflix’s live-action Cowboy Bebop succeeds in unapologetically celebrating and embracing the anime, even if some attempts to add to the storyline fall flat."
