For Amazon Prime Day, the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 has dropped to $1599.99 from its original $2299.99 price point. That's a whopping $700 price drop and brings it to roughly within the same level of pricing as some of the other high-end gaming monitors out there. It's also a new all-time low price for the Odyssey Neo G9.
Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 49" Mini LED Gaming Monitor: The Best Gaming Monitor Around
So what makes this monitor worth the price? The main thing is the Mini LED display. Samsung's highest end "Odyssey" series gaming monitor is also Samsung's only monitor equipped with a Mini LED panel. Mini LED backlights are much smaller and more precise than traditional LED backlights, which means greater contrast ratio, deeper black levels, higher brightness (up to an incredible 2,000 nits), and better HDR than traditional displays. You'll find Mini LED panels only in the higher end 4K TVs as well as the newest Apple iPad Pro 12.9" XDR display, the priciest iPad on the market.
The Samsung Neo G9 isn't a one trick pony, and all the other specs live up to the hype of a top-end gaming monitor. This truly massive 49" curved panel monitor boasts a pixel dense 5,120×1440 resolution. That curve, by the way, is pretty extreme (1000R), to the extent that it almost hugs you as you play games. It offers a 1ms response time and a 240Hz refresh rate, which means virtually no input lag or motion blurring. Plus, it offers G-Sync and FreeSync Premium Pro support. And it has two HDMI 2.1 ports. Friends, this is a lot of monitor.
Obviously the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 isn't a monitor for everyone. You need a big gaming budget if you want to add this to your rig. The cost keeps 99% of us gamers at bay, but for those who can afford it, you'd be hard pressed to find a better monitor.
