Do Fans Actually Want a Thor 5? Reactions Are Mixed

Warning: This article contains minor spoilers for Thor: Love and Thunder.

Marvel fans have taken to social media following the release of Thor: Love and Thunder to share their opinions about whether or not there should be a Thor 5.

We asked you, the IGN audience, that very question on Twitter, and the results of that poll have been very mixed so far. The poll is currently still open for votes, but as it stands at the time of writing, 42.7% of people have pledged their support for a fifth film, while 30.6% of people think it's time to bring the hammer down on the franchise, and others are undecided.

At the end of Thor: Love and Thunder's credits, Marvel confirmed that "Thor will return" to the MCU in the future. That revelation filled a lot of fans with hope over the possibility of a fifth adventure, especially in light of the mid-credits scene in Thor 4, though some support came with the caveat that a different approach would need to be taken on the next one.

People who voted against a fifth Thor movie balanced out the debate by sharing their opinions on why they wouldn't like to see the franchise continue. A few people agreed that the direction would need to change as they're not interested in seeing another comedic romp with the God of Thunder, while others simply felt that the story was done.

Waititi himself has been contemplative when it comes to Thor's character of late, admitting that the latest iteration isn't necessarily what fans would want. That hasn't discouraged him from being involved with the franchise though, as he recently told Insider that he would be up for directing a hypothetical fifth installment so long as Chris Hemsworth returned.

Whatever happens, it's clear that the MCU Phase 4 needs a direction fast, even with Thor: Love and Thunder successfully racking up a $302 million opening weekend.
