New The Witcher Season 2 Trailer Promises War, Monsters, and Magic

A new trailer for The Witcher Season 2 has shown off a taste of the monsters, battles, and storylines that we can expect when it arrives on Netflix on December 17.

The trailer bounces between all of The Witcher's many storylines, including that of Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer, but also features a host of new characters that will presumably introduce new story arcs in season 2. Of note is the appearance of Ciri, who – clad in leathers and lacking her royal attire – is presumably taking training from Geralt at Kaer Morhen.

Witchers are, of course, employed chiefly as monster hunters, and we get a good glimpse of a few of the horrors Geralt will face on his travels this season. A man-sized bat can be seen approaching from behind; this could well be a Fleder, a type of vampire. Towards the end of the trailer we also see Geralt and Ciri facing off a tree-like woodland monster, which may be a Treant. A voice during the trailer states that there are "monsters roaming when they should be hibernating", suggesting the Continent has a monster problem. That's definitely easy(ish) coin for a Witcher.

We see Geralt fight more than monsters, though, and it looks like the human v human fight choreography is back on form as Geralt butchers his way through thugs and knights alike, once again using his magic signs to get the edge.

That same voice talks about "the north and south at war", referencing the march of the Nilfgaardian Empire, which began in season one. That march seems to be set to take us to many more locations this time around; the scope of this trailer seems beyond that of the original series, with many new cities shown off.
