This Hogwarts Legacy review is going to address the gameplay and plot
Without a doubt, Harry Potter and the Wizarding World have made a cultural impact. For years, the series has released many video games for console, PC, and mobile. However, none of these games can compare to the marvel that is Hogwarts Legacy. In two weeks, this game sold 12 million copies. But is this video game the magical experience that is befitting of the Harry Potter legacy?
Fantastic Plot and Endearing Characters
One of the most important things about an RPG is its story and characters. Fortunately, Hogwarts Legacy blows players out of the water with its intriguing storyline. The player is put into an unusual situation of beginning Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in their fifth year. Under the mentorship of Professor Fig, the player is revealed to be able to see and wield Ancient Magic. As the story progresses, the player must unravel the mystery behind Ancient Magic and stop Ragnok and his Goblins. The story weaves naturally into the world, mostly due to the endearing nature of its characters.
In addition to Professor Fig, you will encounter charismatic professors that will teach you new spells, whimsical shopkeepers, and treasured friends. Over the course of the story, you will befriend four students from each house that will help you on your journey. They are:
- Natsai Onai (Gryffindor)
- Sebastian Sallow (Slytherin)
- Amit Thakkar (Ravenclaw)
- Poppy Sweeting (Hufflepuff)
However, there is an entire cast of interesting students to befriend and interact with. All of them manage to find a special place in your heart. But that is nothing compared to the beautiful open world that this game provides.
Beautiful Open World
Nothing shows the love that game developers had for this game more than its world. The environments are simply breathtaking and show an attention to detail that other games fail to grasp. Since Hogwarts Castle and Hogsmeade have been popular and established locations portrayed in books and films, there was a lot of expectation. This game brings to life the locations from the books. You can explore the entirety of the castle (except for the other common rooms of rival houses). The amount of times that I got lost exploring just shows how vast the area is. However, you can adventure further than just the castle and Hogsmeade. As you play, you can explore the hamlets surrounding the Highlands of Scotland.
Interesting Gameplay
Although the magic system is not as advanced as I was expecting, the gameplay that Hogwarts Legacy offers is sleek and varied. The player gets to select from a handful of spells to equip, allowing you to create your own spell combinations to use in battle. While it takes a moment to figure out what combination works for you, it is fun to explore your options. Furthermore, you are also capable of using Ancient Magic in combat by throwing objects and creating powerful attacks. Outside of combat, you can care for magical creatures and fly around the open world on a broomstick. There is a variety of mounts that you can obtain in the game as you progress.
A Magical Experience Worth the Buy

It has been a long time since I have been fully engrossed in a game world. As a young child, I always dreamed of being a witch. Now I have the opportunity to live out my childhood dream. Anyone who is a fan of the franchise or open-world games should give this game a try!
