The Walking Dead Gets New Trailer, Premiere Date for Series’ Final Episodes

AMC has not only revealed a trailer for the final episodes of The Walking Dead, but it also revealed that they will premiere on October 2, 2022.

The trailer begins with a look back at the series and is followed by a saying that sums up this final run – "11 Seasons have all led to this."

What follows is a glimpse of the upcoming war between our heroes and the Miltons and the Commonwealth. It also ends with a tease of a smart zombie that could really complicate things for these characters we have come to love over these many years.

The Walking Dead finished its filming in April, capping an incredibly successful 12-year run that included 177 episodes.

Greg Nicotero, who directed the finale, shared a bit about how emotional it was shooting that final episode.

"We shot 15 days for the last episode," Nicotero said. "As actors ended their final scenes we would wrap them as they went on. So in the middle of these long shoot we’d stop and call wrap on someone and I’d realize that that was the last time I’d ever call ‘action on them.’ It was sad but it was also like ‘we did it,’ ‘we made it,’ ‘we got over the finish line.’

Those who need more zombies in their life have nothing to fear, however, as spin-offs in the universe will help fill that void. In 2023, fans will be treated to Isle of the Dead, which will star Lauren Cohan's Maggie and Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan as they battle zombies in the Big Apple. Speaking of Cohan and Morgan, Nicotero revealed they were the first two characters to wrap filming.

Isle of the Dead will join Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, and the anthology series Tales of the Walking Dead that recieved its first trailer at SDCC.
