Nirvana's Nevermind, one of the most disruptive rock albums of all time, is celebrating its 30th anniversary, and to commemorate the occasion, Geffen is reissuing Nevermind in several different, very cool editions.
Nirvana's Nevermind 30th Anniversary Editions
As someone who lived through Nirvana's rise, it was a strange time indeed. Hair metal still ruled the rock airwaves, and Nirvana's brand of punk-influenced music was just not part of the landscape at the time. It caught everyone, especially the record executives of the time, completely off-guard. It wasn't long before the grunge movement completely overtook rock, and Nirvana's Nevermind is can largely be credited with starting it.
Of course, like all good things, it wasn't meant to last. Soon those very same record execs who were utterly blindsided by the audience interest in "alternative" rock were signing every long-haired musician with a flannel shirt, and the genre became completely diluted and the grunge movement was over quickly.
Some of the biggest names, like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and of course, Nirvana, are still recognized for their contributions to rock, and rightly so.
